Dragon Boat Festival & Gunslinger: A weekend of highlights in Schwerin!

What's new from Schwerin? This week is all about exciting events and exuberant celebrations! From August 22nd to 24th, the largest dragon boat event in Europe invites people to the Pfaffenteich. Over 100 teams compete against each other in thrilling races over 200 meters and 1000 meters. Friday begins on a relaxed note with a welcome party, while on Saturday the races take place all day, followed by an open-air party from 8 p.m. A spectacular fireworks display will light up the sky at 10:45 p.m. Finally, on Sunday there will be the big award ceremony at 2:30 p.m., where the best dragon boat teams will be celebrated. Nordkurier reports that the visit is definitely worth it.

No less interesting are the events for the International Night of Bats, which take place on August 22nd and 24th. On August 22nd there will be a net catch in the Plau city forest, starting at 7 p.m. From 8 p.m. there will be exciting lectures about our nocturnal friends as well as practical observations. On August 24th, a guided hike on the bat trail in Bossow will be offered, starting at 10 a.m. For just 5 euros per person you can be transported into the world of bats - but registration is required.

Musical highlights

Music lovers can look forward to a concert by Revolverheld - an absolute highlight in the open-air stage in the castle garden on August 22nd at 7 p.m. The band is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a special open air and will play their big hits such as “Halt Dich Fest” and “Über die Nacht”. And if you still haven't had enough, you can see Nicole one evening later, on August 24th, at 8 p.m. in the courtyard of Schwerin Castle. The former Eurovision winner will perform her latest songs as well as classics.

But that's not all: from August 19th to 23rd, the garden of the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein-Haus will be the place for “cinema under the sky”. An anniversary program is planned here - the films were selected by the audience themselves. The opening evening will be accompanied by music from the band “Kutterscholle mit Speckstippe”. If you want to experience an evening at the cinema in the open air, you should secure your tickets in advance.

A look into the museum

The cultural continues with the exhibition “Nude & Landscape” by Klaus Ender, which opens on August 23rd at 5 p.m. in the Goldberg Museum. The approximately 100 black and white photographs show impressive works from almost six decades. This exhibition will be on view until August 16, 2026, but registration is required if you would like to visit from November 2025 to April 2026.

With all of these exciting events, Schwerin offers a wealth of opportunities to distract yourself from everyday life and experience something new. So keep fit - whether it's a dragon boat race or a relaxed stroll through museums and concerts - this week is sure to be unforgettable!
