By bike to the North Cape: Höller fights against wind and altitude!
Robert Höller, a well-known musician and actor from Schwerin, is in full swing with his adventurous bike tour to the unique North Cape in Norway. The starting signal for this impressive journey was given on May 25th in his hometown, and today, June 19th, Höller has already completed an impressive 200 kilometers beyond Tromsø. A look at the route shows that he still has 450 kilometers to his destination, which he can probably complete in four days.
His project is not only a personal adventure, but also a social contribution. Höller has set himself the goal of collecting 3,200 euros in donations for a BUND environmental project. For every kilometer driven he brings one euro into the donation pot, and he is currently still 1000 euros short of reaching his goal. So far, around 2,300 euros have already been raised.
Weather and challenges
The impressive 1,700 meters in altitude that Höller has to overcome that day are not the only challenges. With a fresh 8 degrees Celsius and a strong headwind, the cyclist is put under a lot of strain. Nevertheless, Höller doesn't let the adverse conditions get him down. He looks wistfully at the latest reports on the health of Germany's forests, which say that four out of five trees are diseased. This sad reality also inspires him to campaign for reforestation in Germany.
On his tour, Höller recently met his friend Alex in Bodø, with whom he traveled on to the picturesque Lofoten. He was very impressed by the breathtaking landscape of this region, as well as the friendliness of the people he met there. This is a completely different contrast to the vast, deserted regions of Norway, where you can enjoy the silence for hours.
Cycling in Norway
For all those who also want to follow the call of Norwegian nature, the country offers an extensive network of long-distance cycle routes. Norway has established itself as a gentle environmental resort where cyclists can cycle through scenic fjords, through forests and over mountains. The routes not only lead through attractive landscapes, but also to cultural and historical sites that are worth discovering. Cyclists should know that some paths are part of the European cycle path network EuroVelo, while others are less signposted. Good preparation is therefore essential - a map is strongly recommended.
For Höller and his like-minded people who may also be looking for a challenge, there are opportunities to rent bicycles and e-bikes throughout Norway. Guided bike tours and all-inclusive bike packages are also available, so there is something to suit every taste. Cyclists will also find numerous bike-friendly accommodations and restaurants waiting for them.
Anyone interested in supporting Höller can do so via the BUND website. His tour may be physically strenuous, but the greater motivation is the desire to do something good for nature and the environment. And who knows, maybe his journey will inspire others to take an active role in preserving our forests.
