Special Olympics State Games 2025: Rostock will become an inclusion hotspot!

The Hanseatic city of Rostock is ready to present a unique sporting highlight: the first Special Olympics State Games in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will take place here from July 21st to 23rd, 2025. The aim of this event is to help people with intellectual or multiple disabilities gain greater recognition, self-confidence and participation in society. Over 200 athletes will compete for medals in five different sports - including basketball, boccia, football, athletics and swimming. It will be a festival for all sports fans that is all about movement and enthusiasm. The state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania reports on a diverse supporting program that includes an opening ceremony with flame lighting, preliminary rounds, finals and even a fan mile.

The Media Day will be particularly exciting on July 7, 2025 at 10 a.m. in the Rostock athletics stadium. Media representatives are warmly invited to take a look behind the scenes of the preparations and learn more about the importance of inclusion in sport. Among other things, the “Hansa Inclusion” project will be presented, in which the athletes will demonstrate the possibilities of participation. Sports Minister Stefanie Drese and Clemens Russell, President of the SOMV, will also be present and available for interviews. The MV sports association highlights the great anticipation for the event, which is intended to captivate both participants and spectators.

An event full of sport and fun

The state games are not just a competition, but also a festival of joy and community. The athletes' disco and the colorful supporting program promise an all-round successful event where the focus is on team spirit and the participants' top sporting achievements. Qualifications for participation in the 2026 National Games in Saarland are also part of the event, so the state games in Rostock play an important role on the way to greater challenges.

Anyone who would like to take part in Media Day must register by July 4, 2025. Media representatives can also take advantage of photo and film opportunities and receive permission to use Nils Limberg's photo free of charge. This not only offers an exciting opportunity, but also a platform to report on the important topics of inclusion and sporting achievements.
