Acquittal after shooting in Zingst: passenger in focus of investigation!

In August 2024, an incident in Zingst (Western Pomerania-Rügen district) caused great excitement: During a dispute between two security companies, shots were fired that seriously injured two men. Now a new chapter has opened in this drama, as the Stralsund regional court acquitted the 24-year-old driver who was accused of attempted murder. After a thorough examination, the public prosecutor's office had also called for an acquittal and the verdict is now final.

The incident occurred on August 9, 2024 on the pier forecourt in Zingst when the accused driver fired a shot at two men from his car. As a result, they were seriously injured, which caused a considerable uproar in the region and also made headlines beyond the borders of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The 24-year-old defendant came from the Demmin region and had previously worked with his companions at the security company in question before they took the step into self-employment. The boss of the old company demanded five-figure compensation and is said to have threatened the new competitors.

Two men seriously injured

The two injured people, who appeared as co-plaintiffs, survived the shooting attack, but one suffered from life-threatening injuries in the lower abdomen, while the other escaped with a bullet wound to the arm. At this point, a large group of guests gathered in front of a bar, which meant that even more injuries almost resulted in a black eye. A serious circumstance that made the situation appear even more dramatic.

What was particularly sensitive was that during the course of the proceedings, the passenger of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, was identified as a possible shooter, but refused to testify. The court concluded at this point that the passenger, not the driver, was the one who fired. Judge Ulla Riedelsheimer also pointed out that the driver was not able to shoot specifically at the injured parties, which ultimately led to his acquittal. However, the weapon remains undiscovered to date.

The public prosecutor's office is considering further steps

The public prosecutor's office has not yet made an official statement on the next steps, but is apparently continuing to review the verdict and possible further investigations. A court verdict has been made, but what will happen next with the proceedings against the passenger remains to be seen. The drama surrounding the shooting in Zingst remains a hot topic in the region and we can't wait to see what comes next for the citizens.
