Tragedy on the B108: Two men lose their lives in an accident!

On the night of November 11, 2025, a tragic accident occurred on federal highway 108, between Waren and Moltzow, near Marxhagen. A driver lost control of his vehicle in a left-hand bend and crashed into a tree. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when two men, 32 and 27 years old, were traveling. Despite immediate rescue measures, which were initiated due to an emergency call from a witness and a digital emergency call, both people could only be rescued dead at the scene of the accident. The federal highway was completely closed during the entire rescue and recovery operation to make the work of the emergency services easier, reports NDR.

The exact circumstances that led to this devastating accident are currently unclear. Causes of accidents such as insufficient distance, inadequate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol are among the most common factors in road traffic accidents with personal injuries in Germany. According to current statistics, there were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in Germany in 2024, a significant proportion of which were due to human error. Driving under the influence of alcohol is particularly important, with 40% of alcohol-related accidents resulting in personal injuries Statista reported.

A look at road safety

As tragic as this incident was, it fits into a larger trend in road safety. The number of traffic deaths in Germany fell from 19,193 in 1970 to 2,770 in 2024. This image of road safety is also based on “Vision Zero”, a goal of the EU transport ministers to avoid any more traffic fatalities by 2050. The number of accidents on motorways and federal roads is still significantly higher than on state or district roads, which shows a need for action.

In another aspect of road safety, e-bikes and e-scooters have also come into focus. In 2024, over 26,000 people were injured or killed on e-bikes, showing that the accident trend extends to new modes of transportation. Responsible handling and improving the infrastructure are therefore more urgent than ever to ensure the safety of all road users.
