Four years of red-red: Stability and progress celebrated in MV!
Today, November 15, 2025, the red-red coalition in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can look back on four successful years. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig from the SPD and her deputy Simone Oldenburg from the Left have praised the cooperation in the state government and emphasize the stability of governance. n-tv reports that the coalition's focus was on central issues such as the economy, jobs and schools and daycare centers.
“We have managed to govern reliably and put the concerns of the citizens first,” said Schwesig. Oldenburg underlines the constructive and goal-oriented work of the coalition, which has created a basis for social cohesion. Particular attention was paid to equality policy, which is reflected in a new equality policy framework program, which includes, among other things, the urgently needed increase in remuneration in teacher training and the constant recruitment of teachers.
Equality as a state goal
Another important topic in this legislative period is equality, which is anchored as a state goal in the state constitution of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The State Ministry for Equal Opportunities emphasizes that promoting effective equality between men and women is an essential task of public administration. Numerous initiatives are planned to actively promote women and eliminate discriminatory conditions.
As part of the principle of gender mainstreaming, the state government has stipulated that equality must be viewed as a cross-sectional task in all departments. Accordingly, equal opportunities officers and their deputies are elected in all departments with staff representation. These are intended to help support the compatibility of family, care and work. A specialist conference for equal opportunities officers also takes place every two years, which in 2024 will focus on the important topic “Sexual harassment and sexualized violence in the workplace – what to do?” will be dedicated.
A positive balance
Overall, the balance of the red-red coalition is positive. The successes in the areas that directly affect local people are noticeable for many citizens. The efforts for equality and social justice help to sustainably improve the quality of life in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Finally, Schwesig and Oldenburg emphasize that they want to continue to steer the state's fortunes with a good hand. It will be interesting to see what projects will be implemented in the coming years to make the country even more lively and fair. An appropriate choice of words that shows how important it is to respond to people's concerns - because there is something going on in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania!
