Wismar.FM starts Night Shift”: Relaxed music for night workers!
On December 27, 2025, Wismar.FM rearranged its nighttime program and launched a fresh format called “Nachtschicht”. Every day from midnight, night owls can look forward to a calm mix of music that is perfect for long nights. The focus is on carefully selected pop, chill and soft hits that make the nighttime experience pleasant and avoid major interruptions. This new program is intended to offer people who are out and about at night - whether on duty or on a late shift - a distinctive soundscape.
With the introduction of the “night shift”, Wismar.FM is reacting to the changed daily rhythms that affect many people after the holidays. Because at this time the demand for relaxing night programs is particularly high. According to those responsible, the goal is to offer listeners a reliable and calm experience. At the same time, this format strengthens the station's local identity and ensures that working people on late and early shifts find the right musical accompaniment.
Background and development of the night programs
A look at history shows that night programs on the radio are not new. Wikipedia reports on the development of the night program on ARD radio. The first steps were taken on November 2, 1947 with NWDR, followed by other regional programs in 1948. However, it took until 1959 before ARD was able to come up with a Germany-wide night program. At that time, the nighttime coverage gap was closed and the first regular community service in the medium wave range was launched.
There are currently a variety of community night programs that meet different needs. These include, among others, the ARD Hitnacht, which broadcasts daily from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the ARD Night Concert, which airs between midnight and 6 a.m. These programs not only provide music, but also information for listeners looking for entertainment at night.
The perfect companion for the night
The new format “Nachtschicht” from Wismar.FM is therefore not only a response to the needs of the listener, but also part of the continuous development of the program. At a time when many people use the opportunities of night shifts and late shifts to pursue their leisure activities, a quiet and pleasant musical accompaniment is worth its weight in gold. Many listeners appreciate the ability to relax at night - be it at work or listening to music at home.
