For several weeks now, these environmentally friendly vehicles have been used regularly to deliver to Netto branches in northern Germany. The company is not only investing in two new hydrogen trucks, but is also planning to integrate additional vehicles into the fleet in order to make deliveries even more environmentally friendly Net website reported.

Advantages of hydrogen technology

Hydrogen trucks offer several advantages compared to traditional electric trucks, especially when it comes to long-distance transportation. With a longer range, they are ideal for transporting heavier loads. They are also less dependent on rare raw materials such as lithium and cobalt, which are required in the production of batteries. However, there are also challenges: Transport Online describes that high energy losses in the production and storage of hydrogen as well as an insufficient filling station network represent a hurdle.

With this initiative, Netto is not only pursuing its own economic interests, but is also actively contributing to improving air quality. There is a noticeable reduction in air pollution, especially in urban distribution transport, where vehicles are often used in stop-and-go operation. The trend towards using hydrogen as an alternative drive is therefore not only an answer to business challenges, but also an important building block for climate protection.

With over 4,300 branches in Germany and around 84,000 employees, Netto achieves an impressive turnover of 15.8 billion euros. The focus is on social commitment and sustainable purchasing strategies. The company offers around 5,000 items and thus shows a good knack for environmental awareness and modern logistics solutions.

There seems to be a clear trend in the transport and logistics industry: those who rely on sustainable technologies early on have better prospects in the long term. Netto is ideally positioned with its commitment to hydrogen technology and could not only contribute to improving its own business model, but also take on a pioneering role with regard to environmentally conscious logistics solutions.
