New episodes of Nord bei Nordwest start late – fans are disappointed!

The captivating crime series “Nord bei Nordwest” has become an absolute audience favorite in recent years. But there is now news for fans that requires some patience. How moin.de reported, the broadcast of the new films will be postponed to the end of January 2024 instead of starting at the beginning of the month as originally planned. The first strip entitled “Nord bei Nordwest – Pechmarie” will be broadcast on January 29, 2024 at 8:15 p.m. This will be followed on February 5, 2024 by “North by Northwest – Unexploded Ordnance” at the same time.

This year, however, viewers can only look forward to two new episodes. The reason for the later broadcast is, in addition to the introduction of a new format, there are also sporting events in the broadcast schedule. In particular, the upcoming European Handball Championship, which begins on January 15, 2024, has an impact on the program, such as media.de highlights.

Handball European Championship sets standards

The Handball European Championship has already ensured great ratings and so the two programs – “Nord bei Nordwest” and the Handball European Championship – together achieve a market share of 56.3 percent. According to the latest AGF data agf.de The exciting sports broadcasts and the ARD crime thriller drew a combined 8.04 million and 7.84 million viewers respectively on January 18, 2024. This made “Nord bei Nordwest” the clear favorite in prime time in terms of viewership.

A survey of the previous handball European Championship games, which are in the first four places in the daily charts, shows that the spectators have also attracted younger age groups. 2.05 million between 14 and 49 years old watched the European Handball Championship, while “Nord bei Nordwest” reached 0.67 million in this target group.

What do viewers expect?

“Pechmarie” is about the mysterious discovery of four dead people in Schwanitz, which points to a failed drug deal. “Unexploded Ordnance” continues the dramatic tone as the city has to be evacuated due to a war relic. Hinnerk Schönemann is once again slated for the role of Chief Inspector Hauke Jacobs, and the crime series, which has been running since 2014 and has thrilled millions of viewers, remains exciting.

After the broadcast ends, both new films will be available to watch in the ARD media library from January 1, 2026. However, it remains unclear whether fewer episodes will be shown than usual over the course of the year. Episodes that have already been produced could possibly find their place in the broadcast schedule next year.

So fans can be excited, even if it takes until the end of January until the new stories about “Nord bei Nordwest” flicker on their screens. Until then, the European Handball Championships will remain an exciting highlight for all sports fans and will certainly continue to take audiences to the prime-time leagues.
