Mother attacked with stroller in Aurich – witnesses wanted!

On October 5, 2025, an unfortunate incident took place in Aurich that not only shocked the local community but also raised questions about security and violence. On Thursday afternoon, around 12:30 p.m., a young mother was attacked with her stroller near the Caro shopping center on Fischteichweg. The attacker, described as around 30 years old and around 170 cm tall, kicked the woman in the shin and verbally threatened her before she fled towards Georgswall.

The perpetrator was dressed in a pink hoody under a black jacket and black sweatpants, and she wore her hair tied in a bun. The Aurich police are asking for your help: Witnesses are asked to call 04941 6060 to help clarify the incident. Such aggression is alarming, especially considering that violent crime in Germany rose to a peak of approximately 217,000 cases in 2024 - the highest number since 2007, as Statista notes.

The reality of violent crime

Although violent crimes make up less than 4% of all recorded crimes in Germany, they have an enormous impact on people's sense of security. Incidents like this highlight the increasing perception of violence in society. While the number of violent crimes has been rising again since 2021 - after reaching a low during the corona pandemic in 2021 - the reasons are complex. Economic insecurities and social pressures are cited as possible causes, as is the increase in young violent criminals, more than a third of whom are under 21 years old.

The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) states that the police manage to solve acts of violence in over 75% of cases, which at least represents a ray of hope in this worrying development. Nevertheless, in 2023, around 3,970 people suffered in around 2,740 acts of violence against emergency workers, a high that underscores the urgency of the situation. A survey showed that 94% of Germans see violence and aggression against people from politics, the police and emergency services as a major problem.

A painful incident in Aurich

The incident in Aurich fits into this worrying context and brings back memories of similar, tragic events in the region. Just recently, a case caused a stir again when a 38-year-old was acquitted after stabbing a mother. The decision to commit him to a forensic psychiatric facility raises questions about responsibility and the support mechanisms that should exist in our society. These incidents illustrate how important it is to talk about violence and its causes and to develop solutions to prevent such attacks in the future Spiegel is reported.

Society has a responsibility to understand and support both perpetrators and victims. It is to be hoped that such violent incidents will become less frequent in the future and that the feeling of security in our cities and communities will be strengthened.
