Oldenburg Triathlon: Bear team aims for promotion to the regional league!

Something is happening in the region's recreational sports sector! The two teams of the 1st TCO “Die Bären” from Oldenburg are currently on a wave of success that excites many triathlon fans. While the young team is working towards promotion to the regional league, promotion to the regional league is already certain for the first women's team.

The Bears' second team has currently achieved second place in the triathlon league in Salzgitter. This is an important step in the promotion race to the regional league, like nwzonline.de reported. The final in Bad Zwischenahn is on August 23rd and 24th for the first team fighting for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga North. Six athletes from the second team performed bravely in Salzgitter and achieved impressive times:

Team member Time
Martin Berndt 1:09:42
Leif Moormann 1:10:15
Lennard Wefer 1:10:42
Paul Pickart 1:11:38
Nicholas Murdfield 1:15:53
Wolfgang Grotelüschen 1:20:11

With this result, the team is in third place in the overall table, tied with Hannover 96 II - both have 8 points. However, the leading team, the ASC Tri Team Göttingen I, is 6 points ahead. Team leader Niklas Murdfield was overall satisfied with his athletes' performances so far and is optimistic about the upcoming events. The next race will take place on August 17th in Hannover-Lahe, followed by another competition on September 7th in Bleckede (Lüneburg).

Promotion of the women: Great joy after the end of the season

Particularly good news comes from the first women's team: The final competition at the city savings bank triathlon in Bokeloh is on September 1st. This reported die-baeren.org. After a successful day's victory on August 24th in Helmstedt, where the team was able to take first place in the overall Oberliga ranking, the team now had to take one of the first three places in the final competition in order to secure overall victory.

The team consists of Malin Sitzmann, Meret Hanke, Rosa Sitzmann, Friederike Runde, Melanie Sitzmann, Sabina Kruska, Antje Kankel and Leia Murdfield. Friederike Runde swam the second best time in the Oberliga over 700 meters with 10:31 minutes, while Malin Sitzmann was also one of the fastest on the 20 km long bike course. In the end, the team secured second place in the daily ranking, which also meant overall victory in the 2024 Oberliga and thus promotion to the Regionalliga.

It is particularly noteworthy that three of the team members, Rosa, Friederike (both 15 years old) and Meret (16 years old), are competing in the sprint distance in their first season. In addition, Malin, Rosa and Melanie only started triathlon last year. Their joy about promotion was even greater, and everyone looks forward to the upcoming 2025 regional league season with respect.

These remarkable developments at “The Bears” impressively show how far the team has come and arouse anticipation for the next challenges. The triathlon scene in Oldenburg remains exciting. There is definitely something there!
