Despite high summer temperatures and the risk of thunderstorms, the city festival in Leer attracted thousands of visitors. This festival is appreciated throughout northern Germany for its lively atmosphere and varied program. The opening on Friday evening was a complete success, with crowds streaming into the pedestrian zone in great weather. Mühlenplatz and Ernst-Reuter-Platz in particular offered a colorful potpourri of music and entertainment. The “Wild Boys” rocked on the stage at Monument Square, while the “Moonshine Boppers” presented themselves to the audience on Ledastrasse. In the evening there was also a public viewing of the opening game of the European Championship between Germany and Scotland, which attracted many fans in front of a large screen.

A family program awaited the little guests on Sunday, which included a bouncy castle, face painting and Paw Patrol figures. The streets around the festival were closed from Friday evening to make travel easier and to ensure the safety of visitors. The police reported that the festival was peaceful, although there were two pickpockets that occurred in the crowd. Wallets were taken from a shoulder bag and a backpack, prompting police to issue another warning about pickpockets at public events. According to bundespolizei.de, the likelihood of becoming a victim of pickpocketing is particularly high in crowds.
