Twister in Sande will soon reopen - night buses ensure excursions!

In the coming weeks there will be exciting developments in local transport around Aurich, which will particularly affect the region's nightlife. The “Twister” discotheque in Sande is planning to reopen this year, which should bring joy to young and young-at-heart night owls. But that's not all: NWZ Online reports that the specialist committee of the Aurich district council was considering a new “night owl” line via Wiesmoor.

Currently, nocturnal travelers are looking forward to several bus routes that make it possible to enjoy a carefree party in the evenings. Line 410 runs every hour until midnight between Aurich and Emden, while line 480 connects Aurich with Wittmund and also runs until midnight. Particularly pleasing: The operation of the popular “Nachteule” was unanimously extended for another year. The N20 line takes passengers who would like to go to the “Thun” disco in Rechtsupweg safely there on the weekends. Unfortunately, the N10 line, which ran from Wittmund and Aurich to the “Aurum” in Middels, had to be closed at the end of July due to the disco's closure. However, head of office Jens Kleen assured that the “night owl” can return as soon as the “Aurum” opens its doors again.

Local transport plan in preparation

Another important point is the new local transport plan for the Aurich district, which is already being prepared. This plan is not only required by law, but also essential in order to receive funding. Citizens can look forward to the opportunity to view this plan, which promotes transparency and participation. The goals of the plan include, among other things, ensuring basic services, creating barrier-free stops and taking environmental and climate protection into account. The basic rail-bus networks in the Weser-Ems region that are being planned will be supplemented by a uniform ticket and information system, which should make traveling significantly easier.

The introduction of the first electric buses is planned for the coming months. In the future, people are even thinking about hybrid or hydrogen vehicles. But despite these ambitious plans, financing remains a major challenge, especially considering that there are still uncertainties about the continuation of the Deutschlandticket beyond 2026.

View over the national border

A look across the state border shows that night bus trips will also start again in the Northeim district from August 2024. These buses are used on the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday and could represent an interesting alternative for night owls. In comparison, the RBB, which is responsible for these trips, offers, for example, departures on line 220 from Göttingen to Moringen at 12:25 a.m. and at 1:11 a.m. as well as several departures on line 225 between Northeim and Moringen.

The planning of local transport offers always includes a comprehensive analysis of the general conditions. As the local transport advice shows, it is crucial to take all relevant legal bases and requirements into account and to incorporate political goals such as accessibility in local public transport into the implementation. It will be interesting to see how the plans along the Aurich-Northeim axis will develop.
