Electrical professionals in the Harburg district: Future with AI and new challenges!

The guild for electrical engineering in the Harburg district recently held its traditional autumn meeting in Salzhausen. On this occasion, Chief Master Michael Panten spoke about the issues of the upcoming elections and particularly encouraged the younger members to take on leadership roles. The guild currently has 81 companies supported by 6 honorary members and 9 guest members. What is particularly pleasing is that 121 trainees are currently in three and a half years of training, with 32 of them taking up the journeyman's examination in the winter.

But not everything went smoothly. Panten reported on difficulties with the inter-company training in Lüneburg, where an unexpected course will take place shortly before the journeyman examination, while two planned courses have to be cancelled. This represents a challenge for the trainees affected.

New regulations and important technologies

Another important topic at the meeting was the new asbestos regulation, which requires training for business owners and employees. Udo Kaethner from the Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Stade Chamber of Crafts also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in crafts. This technology opens up completely new possibilities for improving workflows and provides support for training and retraining.

Kaethner pointed out that AI can not only help with text formulation and idea generation, but is also used for automated data collection and predictive maintenance of production systems. The possibilities that AI offers for creating individually tailored learning plans for trainees and thus making the educational process more efficient are particularly exciting. In this way, the strengths and weaknesses of the learners can be specifically addressed, which leads to higher motivation and more effective learning.

Challenges and opportunities

The craft sector is urgently faced with the challenge of attracting enough skilled workers. AI offers innovative approaches to optimize training. For example, virtual reality and simulations could help to learn practical skills in a safe environment and train workflows without wasting resources.

At this meeting it became clear that the use of AI in the trades is advancing and offers numerous opportunities for improving teaching and learning processes. Information about skilled labor needs can be obtained through data analysis, enabling effective recruiting and appropriate training.

In this context, it is important to consider privacy concerns. Kaethner strongly advised not to enter personal or confidential data into AI applications in order to protect employee privacy and company security.

The electrical engineering guild is not only dedicated to the current training situation, but also to the challenges of the future. With a committed exchange and the use of modern technologies, the industry has good opportunities to develop further and meet the requirements of the market.
