Insolvency of the FDBS Fleischer-Service: 100 jobs at risk!

The story of FDBS Fleischer-dienst Braunschweig eG takes a shocking turn. On November 8, 2025, the company filed for bankruptcy, as News38 reported. The traditional butcher shop has been supplying restaurateurs and retailers in the Braunschweig region for over 100 years and is now facing uncertain times. Despite the bankruptcy filing, deliveries to customers continue to run without interruption.

The economic situation of FDBS, which is considerable with an annual turnover of over 30 million euros, is significantly burdened by various factors. Prices under pressure, cautious consumer habits and rising energy costs led to difficulties that the company could no longer cope with. Furthermore, an important industry partner caused liquidity problems by canceling payment terms at short notice.

Economic situation and restructuring plans

Tobias Hartwig from the law firm Schultze & Braun was appointed as provisional insolvency administrator. His job is to examine the economic situation of FDBS and explore possible restructuring options. Around 100 employees can initially count on secure wages and salaries until the end of the year. Board member Sebastian Gerlach has already informed the workforce about the current situation and how to proceed.

The FDBS range is full to the brim: over 15,000 items, including fresh meat, sausage products, cheese as well as fruit and vegetables, go on the shelves. Nevertheless, it will now be crucial how those responsible master the challenges. A restructuring concept should be developed to make FDBS more stable and future-proof.

From the world of sports: Curious and dramatic

But Aaron Gordon from the Nuggets also delivered: 50 points – a career high! In doing so, he broke the previous franchise record for a start to a season. Such stories show how dynamic and exciting the world of sport is and provide a welcome counterbalance to the serious developments in the region's business landscape.

All of these events contrast with each other. While FDBS must plan carefully for the coming period, sports fans are looking forward to an exciting NBA season. It remains to be hoped that Fleischer-dienst Braunschweig eG will find a viable solution to preserve one of the oldest companies in the region.
