A look into the history of Bienrode
But what actually makes Bienrode so special? The district has a long history, dating back to 1031. At that time it was first mentioned in documents and developed from a small farming village into a sizeable community. In 1974, Bienrode was finally incorporated into the city of Braunschweig, but its charm and roots remained intact. The name itself has an interesting origin: “Eibenrode” refers to the yew trees that once stood in the area and indicates that it was a clearing site.
Bienrode is located on the eastern bank of the Schunter, surrounded by picturesque nature. Historically, the place was a watermill site that was in operation until 1960. The Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity, built in the 12th century, is another historical highlight that could attract visitors. The district has developed well and today offers a home to around 1,700 residents.
