Student and trainee tickets remain unlimited – a big plus for the region!
In a crucial meeting on September 19, 2025, the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association sealed the future of the popular student ticket. How regionalheute.de reported, an indefinite extension of the school and trainee ticket was decided, which, since its introduction in 2020, has allowed schoolchildren, students and those doing voluntary service unlimited travel in the region for a manageable 30 euros per month.
This decision is no coincidence. The ticket is very popular and offers a cost-effective alternative to the Germany ticket, which currently costs 58 euros. The association has emphasized that the extension of the ticket must be subject to the condition that the necessary financing, especially for the Germany ticket compensation, remains secured.
Important figures and facts
At the meeting, the association chairman Detlef Tanke emphasized the great importance of the ticket for young people. Sales of the 30 euro ticket have increased steadily since its introduction in August 2020, which underlines the demand. The transport association's shareholders' meeting also unanimously approved the continued financing of the ticket until December 31, 2025, which is very pleasing for the family pockets.
The student ticket is valid not only for buses, but also for all regional trains and trams in the Braunschweig Region Transport Association (VRB) every day of the week. This enables students and trainees to have flexible mobility, which is more than important for everyday life. vrb-online.de highlights that the state government has not yet introduced a nationwide cheap ticket for students and trainees. The planned ticket at a price of 29 euros per month is anchored in the coalition agreement for the 2022-2027 legislative period, but remains outstanding for the time being.
More than just a ticket
Comparable to other regions of Germany, such as Hesse, where a similar student ticket is valid, the Braunschweig student ticket impresses with its ease of use. In Hesse, students can also purchase an annual subscription that is valid for buses and trains throughout the state.

Overall, the student ticket represents important support for the mobility of young people and makes everyday life easier for them - a step that is not only practical but also socially necessary. The commitment of the association meeting shows that the future of the students in the region is being looked after with a good hand.
