Goalkeeper chaos at Eintracht Braunschweig: Schulze-Kökelsum changes again!
Eintracht Braunschweig is currently on the move, especially in the goalkeeper position. The unrest began after Jasmin Fejzic's career ended and continued after Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, initially only on loan at the club, was successfully signed permanently. But the interim also brought the “Lions” a lot of turbulence. Lennart Schulze-Kökelsum, who was seen as a possible successor to a former class leader, left the club, but not for long. Now he has taken a new step and is moving to the upper division club VfV Hildesheim.
Schulze-Kökelsum came to the youth academy in Braunschweig eleven years ago and received a professional contract in 2021. But after Hoffmann was signed, he was no longer considered. His contract expired after one year and those responsible decided not to extend it. After a short stint at TSV Steinbach, where he quickly lost his regular place, the goalkeeper was without a club in the summer of 2024. However, he surprisingly returned for Eintracht's U23s at the end of October 2024 and played in the league until the end of the season.
New wind in the gate
Hoffmann's successor was Lennart Grill, who, however, has not been particularly convincing so far. He was signed on loan from 1. FC Union Berlin and the loan is valid until June 30, 2025. On this occasion, a performance-based purchase obligation was even agreed. As a 25-year-old, Grill has an exciting career: He has played in the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga and even gained international experience in the UEFA Europa League. Managing Director Sport Benjamin Kessel expressed optimism about Grill's development and his desire for playing time in Braunschweig. The new keeper emphasized that he was looking forward to a sporting home.
Given the injury to Tino Casali, who is struggling with a cruciate ligament injury, and the departure of Marco Johansson, who has been re-signed but is also leaving the club, Eintracht is forced to find new ways to provide a stable goalkeeper position. The departure of Justin Duda, who is going on loan as a talent, does not make the situation any easier, but there is still hope that the new personnel policy will bear fruit.
Schulze-Kökelsum looks back positively on the upcoming season and obviously enjoyed his discussions with those responsible at VfV Hildesheim. He is looking forward to demonstrating his skills there. So it remains to be seen how the situation at the traditional club will develop and what roles the goalkeepers can ultimately take on.
The next steps in the club are crucial in order to eliminate the unrest and move the team forward in terms of sport. Eintracht Braunschweig remains excited about developments in the coming season.
