Werder Bremen meets Bielefeld again in the DFB Cup clash!

Today is an exciting day for football fans, as the draw for the first round of the 2025/26 DFB Cup took place on June 15, 2025 at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. A highlight of the draw: Werder Bremen plays against Arminia Bielefeld. This encounter has a certain explosiveness, after all, Bielefeld sent Bremen out of the competition with a 2-1 score in the quarter-finals last year. Despite these signs, Bremen seem willing to return the favor.

Eintracht Braunschweig is also looking forward to their draw against defending champions VfB Stuttgart with great anticipation. Sports director Benjamin Kessel was positive about this encounter, which will certainly captivate the spectators. While Braunschweig will try with all its might to achieve the reverse of the last encounter, VfB Stuttgart has big goals to defend the title and prove its strength.

Further encounters and general conditions

The first main round of the DFB Cup will take place between August 15 and 18, 2025. A total of 64 clubs are taking part in this round, which are divided into two groups: the “amateur pot” with teams from the lower leagues and the “professional pot” with the established Bundesliga clubs. For example, Eintracht Norderstedt will play against FC St. Pauli, while Hamburger SV will face Oberliga side FK Pirmasens. Hannover 96 will also play against third division side Energie Cottbus, and Hansa Rostock will host TSG Hoffenheim.

The draw was carried out by sprinter Owen Ansah, together with DFB Vice President Peter Frymuth, who led the draw. Another notable match takes place between Borussia Dortmund and Rot-Weiss Essen, which promises a real local derby. FC Bayern Munich will not remain idle either and will face regional league team SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

Financial aspects and recent challenges

The bonus distribution for the new season is not yet known, but the cup winners can look forward to almost 11 million euros, while the clubs can earn over 200,000 euros for surviving the first round. Ticket sales and perimeter advertising are also significant sources of income, with 10% of the amounts going to the DFB and each club receiving 45%.

The cup season will be exciting, with the second main round on October 28th and 29th, 2025, the round of 16 on December 2nd and 3rd, 2025 and the quarterfinals on February 3rd and 4th and 10th and 11th, 2026. The semi-finals are scheduled for April 21st and 22nd, 2026 and the grand final will take place on May 23rd 2026 in Berlin. The games promise not only sporting excitement, but also thrilling emotions.
