Volunteer award for SoVD Celle: A strong sign of social responsibility!
At the last meeting before the summer break, the Celle district volunteer award was presented for special social commitment. The award, which is worth 2,000 euros, was presented by District Administrator Axel Flader. The importance of voluntary work was particularly emphasized. Nevertheless, the managing director of the Celle district group of the Social Association of Germany (SoVD) said that the association was not always well-liked by the authorities because it fights for social issues. Nevertheless, the SoVD's work has been an essential part of the social landscape in Germany for more than 100 years. Celle press reports about it.
The German Social Association has its roots in 1917, when people came together after the First World War to enforce their pension rights. At a time when many were struggling with the consequences of the war, the association was originally founded as the “Association of War Participants and War Invalids”. Within five years, the association already had 830,000 members. In 1933, due to political pressure from the National Socialists, the association had to close its doors in order to avoid being converted into a Nazi organization. Sovd.de outlines this eventful history.
The SoVD today
The SoVD has now developed into a socio-political interest group that today has over 618,000 members and is active at various levels - from federal to state to district level. The association is based in Berlin, having previously been based in cities such as Hamburg and Bonn. The Celle district group itself now has 11,500 members and 26 local associations. The SoVD's offerings have also expanded: social advice is offered on topics such as pensions, care and applications in order to offer members support in various life situations. Wikipedia provides information about the most important stages in the development of the association.
In his laudatory speech, District Administrator Axel Flader emphasized the three core elements of the SoVD's work: solidarity, social responsibility and help for self-help. He described the association as a social anchor and meeting place and emphasized that no one should be left behind. The voluntary commitment that SoVD members bring to their communities is very popular. At the award ceremony, the honorees received large and long-lasting applause from the district council members - a clear sign of the appreciation that their work received.
The unselfish attitude and commitment of the SoVD and its members are not only an enrichment for the Celle region, but also for society as a whole. Having a good knack for social issues is more important than ever, especially in times like these.
