Harmonies of passion: saxophone and organ unite in Celle!
On Saturday, July 26, 2025, visitors to the town church of St. Marien in Celle can expect a special kind of musical highlight. From 12 p.m., the renowned Hamburg concert duo, consisting of Cornelia Schünemann on the saxophone and Andreas Gärtner on the organ, will perform as part of the “an(ge)dacht” event series. Celler Presse reports on a program that provides listeners with works and arrangements by greats such as Francesco Durante, Camille Saint-Saëns, Astor Piazzolla, Jerry Bock and Andreas gardeners themselves will love.
The combination of saxophone and organ, complemented by vocal surprises, promises an extraordinary sound journey. Cornelia Schünemann is known for her versatility and expressiveness in classical saxophone literature, while Andreas Gärtner is a studied church musician, pianist and composer. They have already performed together in various renowned churches, such as St. Petri in Hamburg and St. Nikolai in Kiel, and are very popular in northern Germany.
A program full of emotions
The musical spectrum ranges from baroque elegance to passionate tango melancholy and is enriched by lyrics by Volkmar Latossek that invite you to think and pause. “We want to not only offer people music, but also create a deeper emotional connection,” the duo explained in advance. During the holiday season, the urban church community will present not only musical but also spiritual highlights that fit into this enjoyable series.
Just one week later, on August 2, 2025, another highlight follows: Dr. Norbert Schwarz will perform on the chromatic harmonica, with the program promising a mixture of classical and jazz. Here too, superintendent Dr. Support Andrea Burgk-Lempart with thoughtful texts. On August 9th, Jannik Hüffner will play the organ and enchant listeners with works of art from the Renaissance to the High Baroque, which once again underlines the diverse offerings of the city church.
A festive atmosphere in other cities too
Aside from the events in Celle, there are also numerous other musical offerings in the area of organ literature. The “Organ Night” will take place on October 17, 2025 in the Church at Südstern in Berlin, for which [Berlin.de]. Works by Bach, Orff and Grieg, among others, are performed - an impressive example of how diverse and lively the world of organ playing is.
