Anniversary for Bach: 10 years of organ works released on 20 CDs!
Johann Sebastian Bach's masterpieces for organ are a true experience for all music lovers. Eric Lebrun and Marie-Ange Leurent have now successfully completed their comprehensive integral of these works after ten years of work. On December 12, 2025, the final volume of the fascinating pieces recorded as part of this ambitious project was released. Not only the time period, but also the variety of organs recorded and the depth of the music testify to extraordinary commitment and loving attention to detail. Loud Radio France The entire collection comprised a total of 10 volumes with 20 CDs, a generous 25 hours of pure music.
The challenge of putting together this collection of organ works involved the use of 14 different organs in four countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. What is particularly impressive is the fact that the recordings took place on both modern organs, such as the Grenzing organ in Saint-Cyprien-en-Périgord, as well as historical instruments, including organs from the Silbermann family in Alsace and organs from Trost and Köhler in Thuringia.
The last volume and its treasures
In the final volume, the musicians play on the Aubertin organ of the Saint-Loup-sur-Thouet church and the renowned historic organ of the Jakobikirche in Lübeck. These places are important not only musically but also historically. The last volume contains not only the “Six Sonatas in Trio”, which is one of the most demanding three-part organ movements, but even newly discovered works such as the Fantasy in C minor. This proves how musicology continually brings new facets of the already known repertoire to light. Also Eric Lebrun confirms the diversity contained in the final volume.
Bach's work is the epitome of organ composition. Historically, Bach, to whom the North German organ school owes a lot, is one of the greatest composers. His almost 220 organ compositions, which are available in various forms and movement types, place high technical demands on the organists playing. This music ranges from artistic fugues to moving chorale arrangements, some of which are recorded in the Orgelbüchlein (BWV 599–644). The creative diversity of Bach's organ works is undisputed and ranges from ornate toccatas to profound passacaglios.
