Kévin Vauquelin shines in Switzerland: second at the Tour de Suisse!

On June 22, 2025, the talented cyclist Kévin Vauquelin from Bayeux finished the Tour de Suisse in an impressive second place. The 24-year-old fought bravely for the yellow jersey, which he temporarily wore during the week, but ultimately lost it to João Almeida in a decisive time trial.

Vauquelin expressed his disappointment at missing out on first place, but at the same time emphasized his desire to continue improving. He finished the time trial in third place, 1 minute and 40 seconds behind the winner Almeida, who mastered the entire race with flying colors and ultimately left Felix Gall and Oscar Onley behind.

A close competition

The competition was fierce and Team UAE Team Emirates' Almeida put in an impressive performance after starting the week over three minutes behind. An outstanding 10km time trial saw him claim the Tour de Suisse title, while Vauquelin will now be competing soon with a clear focus on the French Championships in the Vendée and the Tour de France, which starts in Caen on July 9th.

He plans to compete in the French Championships on July 5th with the aim of winning the time trial and wearing the corresponding jersey. The challenges ahead are not just important to Vauquelin; they also have greater significance for the French cycling team, as there has not been a French winner in a World Tour stage ride since 2007.

Expectations are growing

Vauquelin is already enjoying great attention. His commitment was evident through the support of his family and those around him throughout the Tour de Suisse, especially when he took the lead on Thursday. This emotional support could give him momentum for the next competitions.

The Tour de France 2025 will be a truly monumental event, with 3320 kilometers of distance and 21 stages taking place from July 5th to 27th. The first week brings some interesting stages that will be particularly important for sprinters like Vauquelin, as some of these stages run through his home region of Calvados.

The tour will provide a huge spectacle with 176 riders from 22 teams, supported by 500 support staff and 28,000 security personnel. It will be exciting to see how Vauquelin performs in this top-class field and whether he can live up to the hopeful expectations placed on him.

With one eye on the French Championships and the upcoming Tour de France, one can only be curious to see how the next few weeks will develop for Kévin Vauquelin. Fans are optimistic that he could not only improve his performance but also become a significant player at international level again.
