Montpellier wins spectacularly against Pontault-Combault in judo!

In the heart of Montpellier, the local judo team, Montpellier Judo Olympic (MJO), made a strong statement today. In the second round of the Judo Pro League they played against the Pontault-Combault team and won 4-2. Despite Angel Gustan's absence, the team spirit was even stronger when Emma Melis won the decisive battle for her team and thus secured their first success of the season. Already at the start of the fight, Pontault was one point ahead because they couldn't field an opponent for Melis, but that ultimately didn't make the difference.

MJO coach Arthur Combeau was extremely pleased with his team's performance. Particularly highlighted were the fights of Irakli Goginashvili, who defeated Guillaume Dierstein within 20 seconds, as well as the impressive comeback of Esteban Martins, who scored the only ippon of the evening and thrilled the audience. Emma Melis was also named the best judoka of the meet, which underlines her excellent performance.

Successful return of Emma Melis

Also worth noting is Emma's impressive return from the Junior European Championships in Slovakia, where she took the title in the mixed team competition and won a silver medal in the individual. She successfully prevailed against teams from Romania, Germany and Turkey. Her performance was crowned by reaching the individual final, where she lost to the Italian competition. With her two medals, Emma shows that she is a serious candidate for the upcoming Junior World Championships in Peru.

In addition, the MJO also has many talented athletes who perform well at both national and international levels. Seven judokas took part in the European University Championships in Poland, three of whom won medals. The entire team showed impressive performances that inspired the local sports scene. Angel Gustan, for example, won the silver medal with the French team at the World University Games in Germany.

A look into the future

After the initial setback against Juniville, the Montpellier judokas have now set their eyes firmly on the challenges ahead. The next matches are scheduled for November 25th in Nantes and December 17th in Orléans. The MJO has qualified for the Champions League and has already reached the quarter-finals. So it remains exciting to see how the team will develop further. A powerful team, paired with talented judokas like Emma Melis, gives hope that the future looks bright.

While the judo season is exciting in Montpellier, fans continue to look forward to the upcoming European Championships and international events that will take place in places like Zagreb and Podgorica in the following years, as already documented on Wikipedia. In the end, the current season, both in the Judo Pro League and in the international arena, shows the enormous potential of the Montpellier Judo Olympic.
