Poitiers celebrates: five new records at the international meeting!
Last weekend Poitiers experienced a sporting highlight with the international meeting in the Rebeilleau stadium. The nine editions of this event were not only a complete success for the organizers, but also a showcase for outstanding sporting achievements. Alain Devaux, who was primarily responsible, was visibly satisfied with the athletes' performance. A total of around 600 spectators came to watch the exciting competitions. Thanks to the meeting's status as a “challenger”, Poitiers was able to make a name for itself internationally, which brought the event into the spotlight of sporting interest. La Nouvelle République reports that five new records were set: for men in the 400 meters, 800 meters and long jump, and for women in the 100 meters and 1,500 meters.
The mood among the athletes was overwhelming. The president of the local athletics committee of Vienne was enthusiastic about the outstanding performances and commitment of the participants. Athletes from all over France took the opportunity to put their skills to the test and spent a night at CREPS, where their accommodation costs including breakfast were covered. This helped the athletes to prepare well before an important competition. The official website of the meeting provides further information, including details on meals and travel, which has been facilitated by shuttle services provided between the stadium and the Gare.
A look at the records
In the context of sporting events, records are always a hotly debated topic. At the meeting in Poitiers, five new records were set, which not only honored the athletes but also captivated the audience. Records are also discussed outside of this event, be it the world record in the pole vault, held by Armand Duplantis, or other national records. The Olympic Commission refers to the special significance that national records play in the context of sports history and the questions that arise around the record hunters.
The spectators were enthusiastic about the wings of athletics and it became clear that such events are of great importance not only for the athletes themselves but also for the local communities. The ninth edition of the meeting will certainly be remembered as the organizers are already making plans for the next edition. Poitiers has once again established itself as a center for outstanding sport and competition.
