Power grid expansion in Celle: Safely into the future of the energy transition!
The energy transition is making good progress in northern Germany! Celle-Uelzen Netz GmbH (CUN) is not only the regional network operator in the Celle and Uelzen districts, but also has a lot planned. Currently, 146,195 end consumers are connected to their electricity network, which extends over a medium-voltage cable network of 2,592 kilometers and a low-voltage cable network of 5,844 kilometers. These impressive figures show how important the infrastructure is for the region's energy supply, as celle-uelzennetz.de.
Network expansion is not just a buzzword, but a necessity. It became particularly necessary due to the growing number of decentralized generation systems - there are currently 6,745 that are connected by the CUN. In order to meet the increased demands of the energy transition, the company is planning massive investments of over 500 million euros in the coming years. These will include, among other things, increasing transformer output and intensifying the expansion of medium and low-voltage cables in order to guarantee security of supply.
Expansions in Celle
A special project is on the program in Celle. Construction work is currently underway in the Rostocker Straße and Welfenallee area to connect several renovated residential buildings to the power grid. CUN Managing Director Dr. Ulrich Finke emphasizes the company's responsibility for secure electricity supply in the region. Central to this are the newly installed air heat pumps in the buildings, which work without fossil fuels and thus significantly increase the electricity requirement, especially in the cold season.
The construction work, which started after Pentecost and is scheduled to be completed by the end of July, will result in a partial road closure. In order to meet the energy needs of the residents, a new medium-voltage transformer station will be installed on Rostocker Straße, and additional power lines will also be laid, primarily in the sidewalks. Electromobility is also playing an increasing role; Charging electric cars is closely linked to the expansion of the electricity grid.
The answer to the energy transition
The accelerated expansion of renewable energies also brings with it new challenges. In the long term, the electricity supply must fundamentally change to meet increasing demand. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) emphasizes the need for network operators and market participants to adapt to the increasing supply of electricity from photovoltaic systems and to develop systems for stable network operation, as described on bmwk.de.
Technical development is progressing rapidly, and new technologies such as controllable local network transformers are intended to help reduce conventional network expansion. The cooperation between the network operators and Avacon Netz GmbH will also be strengthened to ensure system stability.
In the coming years, work will not only be done on the infrastructure in the Celle area, but also on the future requirements that the energy supply brings with it under the sign of the energy transition. The CUN has a good hand for the challenges of the future - that is clearly clear!
