Delmenhorst is planning more charging stations: e-mobility in the fast lane!

The city of Delmenhorst is future-oriented and presented its expansion strategies for the public charging infrastructure at the Lower Saxony E-Mobility Summit in Hanover. This took place on November 13, 2025 under the motto “Electromobility in full swing – Let’s stay on track!” instead of. One focus was on analyzing the current status of electromobility and charging infrastructure as well as the challenges until 2030. One of the prominent participants was Grant Hendrik Tonne, Lower Saxony's Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport and Construction.

As part of the event, which also offered a live stream, the new concepts for charging infrastructure, which were developed together with the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport (NLStBV), were explained. The strategy includes potential locations for the construction of electric vehicle charging stations. Among other things, parking spaces at the stadium on Düsternortstrasse and at the Bungerhof municipal cemetery on Friedensstrasse will serve as possible locations, reports DelmeNews.

Sustainable mobility in view

Another focus of the discussions at the E-Mobility Summit was the phase-out of combustion engine technology, which is being pushed forward by politicians and the automotive industry alike. From 2035, new petrol and diesel cars will no longer be allowed to be registered in the EU, and sales of electric cars have already seen a sharp increase. In 2024, there were around 1.7 million electric cars on German roads, a remarkable increase since 2020, when there were only 136,600. Nevertheless, growth in 2024 was shown to be slower than in previous years, partly due to the end of the environmental bonus, such as Statista analyzed.

A look into the future

With over 160,800 charging points in Germany installed by January 2025, the charging infrastructure is increasingly being expanded. Delmenhorst is on the right track to meet the requirements of electromobility. The city administration is now working on handing over the charging infrastructure concepts to the municipalities and has great confidence in the planned measures to create broader acceptance of electric vehicles. The market for electric cars has gained a lot of momentum in recent years and this is driving up new registrations. This positive trend is further supported by cheaper models and EU emissions regulations, so sales figures are expected to increase again.

The town hall and its surroundings are characterized by an environmentally friendly mobility transition. Ultimately, advances in electromobility are not only a benefit for the local economy, but also for the environment. A good hand in the planning phase ensures that Delmenhorst can serve as a model region for switching to electric drive technologies, which ultimately benefits the citizens.
