Insolvency shock for Hüffermann: hundreds of jobs at risk!

In a surprising turn of events, Hüffermann Krandienst GmbH filed for bankruptcy on September 22, 2025. This also affects several subsidiaries such as Knaack GmbH and Thömen Spedition GmbH & Co. KG. The preliminary insolvency administration is in the hands of Tim Beyer, an experienced lawyer from the Görg law firm. The application was submitted to the Delmenhorst district court, which unsettled the company's 600 employees and many customers.

Hüffermann, known for its cranes and services in the heavy-duty sector, has experienced enormous pressure from external factors despite an impressive annual turnover of around 232 million euros in 2024. Among other things, the years of economic recession in Germany and the ongoing war in Ukraine have placed a heavy burden on the company. The high import tariffs to the USA, which amount to up to 50 percent, have made exports much more difficult, which has fatal consequences for the industry. In addition, there are retail customers who are reluctant to invest, who make up 40 percent of sales and are now holding back their spending.

Impact on the workforce

Despite the bankruptcy, business operations will initially continue at all locations in Germany. The main focus is on securing as many jobs as possible. Wages and salaries are covered by the insolvency money, at least until the matter is clarified. However, the problems with the payment of the insolvency money were delayed, which already led to limited operational business. Toll machines and fuel cards do not work at times, which severely affects transport.

The situation also reflects the broader economic situation in Germany, which ZDF reports is under pressure. In 2024, gross domestic product fell by 0.2 percent, highlighting the decline in industry and stagnating growth in construction. These circumstances put a strain on the entire economy and make companies like Hüffermann particularly vulnerable.

The way forward

The hope for a judicial reorganization sounds promising. A provisional creditors' committee has been set up and there is a possibility of sustainable consolidation. The company's previous investment strategy, which was characterized by expansion and acquisitions in recent years, will play a crucial role in the restructuring. A total of an impressive 222 million euros were invested in new Liebherr cranes from 2021 to 2024.

Crucial discussions with creditors, clients and suppliers are now imminent. The success of these negotiations could secure the future of the company and thus that of numerous employees. The feedback from the industry shows a close partnership with Liebherr that offers promising prospects. But the tense economic conditions and the uncertainties on the markets make the situation even more complicated.

In this challenging environment, it remains exciting to see how Hüffermann Krandienst GmbH and its subsidiaries will develop in the coming months and whether the course can be set for a successful reorganization and long-term stability.
