Empties thief caught in Delmenhorst – police on duty!
On the night from Sunday to Monday, a theft in Delmenhorst caused a stir. A 26-year-old man was caught red-handed on June 16, 2025 around 12:30 a.m. when he tried to steal several beverage crates with empties from a restaurant on Bremer Strasse. The incident occurred on private property and quickly drew the attention of police. Despite his escape, an alert patrol crew managed to catch the perpetrator and secure the stolen goods. The stolen empties were immediately returned to the damaged company, while the 26-year-old now faces several criminal charges.
The Delmenhorst police station confirmed the incident in a statement at 9:29 a.m. on the same day. Criminal cases like the ones taking place here are part of a larger trend in Germany. According to Statista, around 1.78 million thefts were recorded by police in 2022, marking an increase compared to previous years. Shoplifting, bicycle theft and theft from motor vehicles are particularly common, which shows that theft is one of the most frequently committed crimes in Germany. One aspect that should not be overlooked is the increase in theft crimes, which has been recorded for the first time since 2015.
Insight into crime
As the statistics show, Delmenhorst is not the only city that suffers from theft. In North Rhine-Westphalia in particular, over 23,500 residential burglaries were registered in 2022, which accounts for more than 35% of all cases in the federal states. The clearance rate for residential burglaries was also just 16.1%, indicating how challenging it can be for police to solve such crimes. In comparison, the clearance rate for vehicle thefts is impressive at 31.1%.
In summary, it is clear that Delmenhorst, although a small incident, is part of a larger trend that the statistics show. It is a clear indication that there is still a lot to be done in the area of crime and that local forces, such as the Delmenhorst police, are always on duty to combat such crimes.
