Ship model of the frigate Delmenhorst” tells maritime history!
A maritime rarity has found its way into the city museum on the Nordwolle site in Delmenhorst: an impressive ship model of a frigate called “Delmenhorst”. The approximately two meter long model, which is made of oak wood, shines with three masts and a lion's head as a figurehead. Model maker and restorer Armin Kollmann worked on this lovingly designed replica in his free time for over two years. Museum director Gerhard Kaldewei notes that the model wonderfully complements the history of Delmenhorst Castle up to 1800 and puts the city's maritime past in the spotlight.
The frigate “Delmenhorst” was built by Danes in 1735 and was active in the conflict with Sweden. Interestingly, several Danish warships have already had this name. Original drawings of the ship can be found in the National Museum in Copenhagen. The replica was made possible by a generous donation from tax advisor Werner Seiter, which was made available for the realization of the model.
