SSV Tarmstedt cracks the first day of competition with a strong second place!
Archery is very important in the harmonious community of Tarmstedt, and the first competition weekend of the regional archery association league impressively showed what the SSV Tarmstedt shooters can do. On November 18, 2025, the team had a mixed record on the first day of competition, finishing fourth, which caused discussion and optimism within the club. A total of three draws, two wins and two defeats were recorded, which sports director Norbert Moderow commented positively on.
The balance sheet could definitely be seen as motivating. In the first duel, Tarmstedt had a difficult start against SV Hunteburg and suffered a 2:6 defeat. In an exciting second meeting, Tarmstedt managed to achieve a 5-5 draw against SV Lastrup, which gave the shooters a lot of self-confidence. Particularly noteworthy was the narrow 4:6 defeat against BSV Berge, who are considered the top favorites this year. Luckily, Tarmstedt then scored a 6:4 win against TuS Petersfehn and ended the day with another 5:5 draw against SSC Artland.
Opportunities for advancement and future competitions
The sporting situation does not look bleak for Tarmstedt. SSV Tarmstedt has had to struggle with personnel problems in recent years and had to be relegated from the Regionalliga Nord. In order to breathe new life into the team, the Tarmstedt I and II teams were merged, with the clear goal of getting promoted back to the regional league as quickly as possible. The second day of the competition is already around the corner and will take place on the second Advent in the KGS sports hall in Tarmstedt. It will be interesting to see whether SSV Tarmstedt can maintain its current position or whether TuS Zeven, who also plays in the regional association league, will try to catch up.
Compared to last season, there were no personnel changes in the Tarmstedt squad. The four regular shooters bring a lot of experience with them, and additional performances from the experienced replacement shooters from our own ranks could make the decisive difference. We can also look optimistically into the future with regard to the upcoming competitions and promotion plans.
A look into archery history
Archery is not only a sport that is actively practiced in Tarmstedt, but also has a long tradition in Germany and Europe. Germany won five medals in archery at the 2022 European Archery Championships in Munich, including a gold medal for the highly talented Michelle Kroppen. The popularity of archery is constantly increasing, and there are not only regional competitions, but also major international events, such as the 2024 European Championships, which will be hosted in Essen.
The German archery scene has a lot of potential, and the German Archery Association has over 1.3 million members, of which around 60,000 are archers. Traditionally, Germany has also achieved great success at the Olympic Games; 5 medals have been won in history so far. These successes could also inspire the next generation of shooters who can carry on the tradition and continue to make a splash.
SSV Tarmstedt has not only accepted the challenge of gaining a foothold in the regional association league, but is also part of a dynamic and growing sports community. With courage, perseverance and good team spirit, the way back to the regional league may not be that far away.
