Emden Research Days 2025: Experience science to amaze!

Things will get going again in Emden on October 30, 2025, when the Johannes-Althusius-Gymnasium (JAG) opens the Emden Research Days. This series of events, which has been held every year since 2015, brings exciting personalities from science, politics and culture to Emden. Their goal is clear: students and all other interested parties gain insights into various research areas. This not only sharpens knowledge, but also promotes dialogue between science and the public.

This year the audience can look forward to a special keynote speaker: Prof. Dr. Dr. Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, will speak about “From foragers to complex societies – milestones in the earliest history of humanity”. The event will also kick off with an exciting story by JAG student Titus Tempel, who will report on his experiences on the research ship “Polarstern”.

Diverse topics and speakers

The Emden Research Days 2025/26 offer a series of lectures that will be made accessible to the general public, and best of all: entry to all events is free! On January 8, 2026, Dr. Björn Fiedler, expedition leader at the Geomar Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research in Kiel, will present his findings on international marine research. On January 22, 2026, Prof. Dr. Jochem Marotzke, director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, informed the audience about climate models and “unknown climate crises”.

The grand finale of the research days is the lecture by Prof. Dr. Metin Tolan on February 12, 2026. This time it's all about physics in the James Bond films. “Shaked not stirred – James Bond in the sights of physics” is the title that will certainly bring together many film and science enthusiasts. The JAG itself also has a good hand when it comes to recruiting outstanding speakers - and all of this without fees!

Cooperation and ticket reservation

The event is not only organized by the JAG itself, but also in collaboration with the city of Emden and the Kunsthalle Emden. The support of local sponsors ensures that this great initiative can continue to take place in the future. Tickets for reservations for all events are available on the JAG homepage, where curious people can look around in the “Projects/Research Days 25/26” section.

The Emden Research Days not only offer great access to knowledge, but are also a great opportunity to experience science up close. The entire program promises exciting insights and stimulating discussions - a must for anyone interested in the world of research. Let’s look forward to the opening and an exciting time!
