Regionalliga North: Emden welcomes Meppen in a thrilling start to the season!

The fans of the Regionalliga Nord can look forward to: On July 25, 2025 at 7 p.m., the new 2025/26 season will be inaugurated with an exciting opening game between Kickers Emden and SV Meppen in the Ostfriesland Stadium in Emden. It is a duel between the two teams who, despite their rivalry, are placing great emphasis on the promotion round and are hoping for a strong season. This encounter is no coincidence, as the two teams have already faced each other in thrilling matches last year, with Emden winning the first leg 1-0 and Meppen winning 2-0 in the second leg, as kicker.de reports.

The anticipation is great, especially for SV Meppen, who will take part in an opening game for the first time since being relegated from the third division. This time it's away against runner-up Emden. Historically, Meppen has had a mixed start - last year there was a 1-1 draw against SC Weiche Flensburg and before that a 1-0 home win against SV Drochtersen/Assel. After being relegated to the third division, the team now has to prove itself again and the fans are hoping for a successful start to the season.

Changes in the game plan

The schedule for the new season has not yet been published for the Regionalliga Nord, although publication is scheduled for next week - possibly only the first two match days will be available. The current situation has also led to the blitz tournament at BV Garrel planned for July 4, 2025, in which both teams originally wanted to take part, being canceled. Instead, Meppen will play against Garrel in two 45-minute games that day NOZ reported.

The start of the season on the last weekend in July and the last regular match day of the calendar year on the first weekend in December give fans hope for an exciting season. Catch-up games are possible before the Christmas holidays, and a full restart in the new year is planned for February 22, 2026. The last match day will conclude on May 17, 2026, which promises the possibility of exciting decisions right up to the end.

In this sense, the first duels promise exciting encounters, and perhaps SV Meppen will celebrate its comeback to the higher leagues this season. The anticipation for the new season is growing, as are the expectations of the fans!
