Creating the future: AOK training in Emden inspires students!

What is happening in Emden’s training landscape? A recent interview with AOK provided exciting insights into the opportunities that await students there. On November 18, 2025, seven committed students from IGS Emden had the opportunity to find out more about the training opportunities and everyday work at AOK. The health insurance company was represented by Daniel Taranov and a trainee, who answered all of the young interviewers' questions.

The AOK is not only one of the major health insurance companies, but also an attractive training company that offers apprenticeships, internships and future days. Anyone interested in a career as a social insurance clerk can begin their training at AOK, which usually lasts at least three years. With a high school diploma or technical college diploma, it is even possible to shorten the period to two years. This shows that the interest and commitment of applicants is given top priority at AOK. A secondary school diploma is desirable, although grades are not decisive - rather, attention is paid to the number of days absent and their excuse. If you enjoy working with people and are willing to try new things, this is the right place for you!

The training path at AOK

The training to become a social insurance clerk covers the diverse aspects of social insurance in Germany, which is based on five pillars: health insurance, accident insurance, nursing care insurance, unemployment insurance and pension insurance. Future specialists specialize in one of these areas and, after training, are able to offer comprehensive advice on insurance relationships and process benefit applications. They also work closely with doctors, hospitals and care facilities.

During training, great emphasis is placed on developing important characteristics. Committed, prudent action as well as decision-making and initiative are required. The AOK also offers intensive support throughout the entire training period. The training manager is an important contact person for the prospective specialists and ensures that support and feedback are not neglected. In a working environment that lasts an average of 38.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, trainees can expect a serious dress code that takes the professional nature of the job into account.

Prospects after training

The recognition for the profession of social insurance clerk is high. The training allowance is between 1,222 and 1,374 euros in the first year, in the second year an amount of 1,318 to 1,459 euros is paid and in the third year this increases to 1,424 to 1,538 euros. After graduation, graduates can expect starting salaries of between 2,915 and 3,281 euros gross per month. After several years of professional experience, salaries of up to 4,763 euros are possible. This salary structure ensures that the job is not only interesting but also financially attractive.

The AOK relies on qualified young talent to meet the high demand for social insurance clerks - a professional field that is continuously growing due to the statutory social insurance requirement. Anyone who enjoys helping and prefers a structured, rule-oriented way of working will find fulfillment in this professional field.
However, if you have action-packed activities and are disinterested in numbers and legal texts, you should look for alternatives.
