Dancing cultures unite Gifhorn: A celebration of togetherness!
A colorful celebration of cultures recently took place in the Bürgerschützensaal in Gifhorn. The event entitled “The World Dances” attracted around 200 participants from different nationalities and cultures. The festival was organized by the district's Integration Office, which wanted to create a platform for intercultural exchange. This was done through dances and rhythms without words that celebrated the diversity and coexistence of cultures. WAZ Online reports that the performances included both traditional and modern dances, and the circle dances promoted community.
What was particularly remarkable was that all participating groups performed free of charge and donated international delicacies for a free take-home buffet. The groups that performed included the International Women's Drum Group, children from the Kalem Association, the Syrian-Iraqi-Yazidi and African communities and the Indonesian Association. The dance groups Inside and Gute Mood also had a lot of fun. A solo performance by Marizieh Zanjani from Iran rounded off the cultural program. The children of the drum group from the Ehra-Lessien shared accommodation contributed to the entertainment and created a happy atmosphere in the hall.
Community activities and donations
A particularly heartfelt moment of the event was a spontaneous fundraiser from the audience. A total of 221.50 euros was raised for the young drum group from Ehra-Lessien, which would like to use it to purchase additional instruments. Jenny Reissig, one of the initiators of the project, enthusiastically reported on the joy that the children radiated during the festival. Such actions not only strengthen the sense of community, but also show how important cultural integration is.
The great response shows that the event has an importance that goes beyond the day. The Integration Office is planning to host “The World Dances” again next year in order to further promote this exchange and community. At a time when cultural diversity and inclusion are commonplace, such events are essential.
Promoting cultural integration
There are currently several funding programs that deal with cultural integration and education to support projects like this. Programs such as “Culture makes you strong. Alliances for Education”, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), promote extracurricular cultural education projects for children and young people with little access. These programs ensure that cultural participation is promoted and the personal development of young people is supported. Details are on Donation pot to find.
Another important program is “Live Democracy!”, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. This program aims to strengthen democracy, diversity and participation and supports projects that promote intercultural exchange. There are also numerous sporting initiatives to integrate people with a migration background, which promote social cohesion and cultural exchange.
The world dances in Gifhorn is not just a celebration, but a clear expression of community, creativity and the strength that diversity brings. If you would like to find out more about similar projects and funding, you can find further information at The House of XYZ.
