Gaming fever in Göttingen: Youth library invites you to play!

The world of gaming is booming and attracting more and more young people. The upcoming “Gaming in the Youth Library” event in Göttingen offers a great example of this. On Friday, June 27, 2025, young people aged 14 and over will have the opportunity to play on the Nintendo Switch in the youth library of the city library in the Thomas-Buergenthal-Haus, Gotmarstraße 8, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Registrations are already possible as the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 8 people, but there is no upper limit for those interested.

The event is organized in collaboration with E-Sport Union Göttingen e.V. (ESUG), which was founded in 2020 and has been building a lively community around e-sports around Göttingen since its inception. In addition to organizing events, ESUG promotes participation in competitions, offers regular community evenings and streams tournaments on platforms such as Twitch. The collaboration with the ASC Göttingen also ensures that participants can benefit from excellent trainer expertise and valuable hardware.

The passion for digital games

In recent years, e-sports have grown into a serious area that is not only fun but also offers numerous opportunities. While major tournaments pay out millions in prize money, such as the Dota 2 competition “The International”, a greater awareness of the recognition of e-sports has developed in Germany. It is no longer perceived as just a game, but also as a potential profession bpb.de notes.

Regardless of whether you are a passionate gamer or a newbie, the event in the youth library offers a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of e-sports. The mix of competition and community will certainly appeal to many young people and encourage them to make new friends.

A look into the future

At a time when digital games have more than just entertainment value, ESUG shows that local initiatives can also make a big difference. With commitment and creativity, they ensure that e-sports and gaming are not just dismissed as hype, but are seriously viewed as part of modern culture. E-sports have developed from a niche topic into a responsible leisure activity that covers many interests and requires both team spirit and strategic thinking from players.

The city administration has also taken a modern approach to reach young people via Telegram and Notify, making it easier to find out about such events. If you have suggestions or opinions, you can contact the city administration directly at the email address IhrMeinung@goettingen.de. It remains to be seen how the future of e-sports in Göttingen and beyond can be shaped - but the trend is clearly towards growth and acceptance.
