Göttingen illuminated: Night of Knowledge attracts crowds!
Last night, June 21, 2025, Göttingen experienced the sixth edition of the “Night of Knowledge”. It was a real spectacle that captivated the citizens. At over 35 different locations, visitors from all age groups were able to enjoy exciting insights into the world of science and research. Numerous special events, workshops and guided tours invited people to actively participate and satisfy their curiosity. The event was organized by the Göttingen Campus Initiative and a number of other universities and non-university institutions, which offered a total of over 420 events.
The “Night of Knowledge” is a highlight of the Göttingen event landscape and not only offers the opportunity to experience the latest scientific findings up close, but also to learn. From science slams to exciting lectures to hands-on activities, there was something for everyone. Admission was free and a shuttle bus provided transport between the various venues, making attending the event a particularly pleasant experience.
Special attractions and security measures
Particular attention was paid to the safety of visitors, especially when crossing the bridges. Some of the attractions were designed to be visual treats: fluorescent liquids glowed in bright colors and Tesla coils transformed the night into a lightsaber spectacle. These technical finesses in combination with the creative design created an atmospheric atmosphere that thrilled both young and old.
The organizers also paid attention to the participation of older people, because the desire for education and further training is known to be independent of age. The topic of “education in old age” also played a role in motivating this part of the population to take advantage of the numerous educational offers. From a rich pool of projects in areas such as art, health and digitalization, a variety of options were presented that show how important learning is for all generations - a fact that is also receiving more and more attention here in Göttingen.
The role of the GWDG
Another highlight was the participation of the Society for Scientific Data Processing (GWDG). For example, visitors were able to take a look behind the scenes of the data center, learn more about artificial intelligence and exchange ideas with GWDG doctoral students. The events took place in the foyer of the Lower Saxony State and University Library at Platz der Göttinger Sieben and offered a great opportunity to talk to the scientists.
The “Night of Knowledge” has established itself as a valuable part of the Göttingen event calendar. The community can look forward to more such inspiring events that not only convey knowledge, but also strengthen the community. A big thank you to everyone who made this night an unforgettable experience!
