New Schützenliesel Lisa inspires at the Duderstadt shooting festival!
The starting signal for this year's Schützenfest has been fired in Duderstadt, and there is reason to be happy: the new Schützenliesel has been announced! Lisa Schröter, active shooter and daughter of Mario Schröter, a long-time board member of the shooting society, was honored on Friday evening at the Festkommer in the Ballhaus. Rifle captain Hans-Georg Kracht presented the envelope with her name on it, a moment that captivated many. Lisa came back from her studies especially for the festival in order to be part of this special event.
Preparations for the shooting festival have been going on for months, as the two committed members Lioba Stadermann and Claudia Hampel confirm. They thought about who could be considered as the new Schützenliesel and made their choice with Lisa. The shooting festival is traditionally celebrated around the second Sunday in July, where shooters travel from near and far to gather in a colorful setting.
A festival full of traditions and attractions
The city of Duderstadt and its population are already in festival fever. The streets are decorated, flags are blowing in the wind and the anticipation is palpable everywhere. A number of program items have been firmly established for years. These include the shooting competitions, where both male and female shooters can demonstrate their marksmanship. A special attraction is the opportunity for the public to shoot at the prize target, also known as the people's target. These competitions end a few weeks after the festival and create great excitement.
But the focus isn't just on shooting. At the centrally located Schützenplatz on August-Werner-Allee there are rides, culinary delights and a colorful music program. In the festival tents, which usually offer free entry except on Friday evenings, live bands and discos ensure a good atmosphere. On Sunday, after the parade, a local band will play and you can sway and dance over coffee and cake.
The meaning of the shooting festival
Shooting festivals are a widespread tradition in Germany, not least because there are more than 15,000 shooting clubs that keep enthusiasm for shooting high. As you can read on alle-schuetzenvereine, these festivals often combine celebratory parades with marching bands and the display of flags, which strengthens the sense of community during the warm months.
This year in Duderstadt we can once again see how lively this tradition is. A banquet, the tapping of the beer keg and a lively program keep the atmosphere going. It is not just an event for the shooters, but also for the entire population, who are cordially invited to take part in the celebrations. Because how is it not in Duderstadt? What counts here is community and togetherness, which gives a simple celebration a very special touch!
