Experience inclusion: action day in Goslar with exciting activities!
On Saturday, June 28, 2025, an exciting information and action day entitled “Inclusion in Everyday Life” will take place in Goslar. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Jakobikirchhof will be a venue for all interested citizens, regardless of age or disability. The event is organized by the Inclusion Advisory Board for the Goslar district, which is actively committed to an inclusive environment. RegionalToday reports that the event will feature numerous activities designed to raise awareness of inclusion.
Some interesting programs stand out among the offers. Visitors have the opportunity to try out an age simulation suit to understand the challenges faced by older people. Wheelchair tours are also offered to experience barriers in everyday life first hand. The program also includes exchanges with deaf people about their everyday experiences. So that the little visitors also get their money's worth, there is a children's make-up offer - everything has been thought of here!
Collaboration for inclusion
The event takes place in cooperation with several partners, including the Lower Saxony Deaf Association and the Alzheimer Group. The Lower Saxony Senior Citizens and Care Support Center (SPN) in the Goslar district is also actively involved. This collaboration shows how important it is to connect different organizations to promote inclusion in society.
But what does inclusion really mean in our everyday lives? According to a study, around 13 million people in Germany live with disabilities, who are often hindered by barriers in their everyday lives. Whether in local public transport, visiting the doctor or accessing leisure activities such as museums and cinemas – there are still hurdles everywhere. The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs highlights that accessibility benefits not only people with disabilities, but also other groups, such as older people or families with children.
A recently passed coalition agreement provides for the decisive advancement of accessibility measures. The federal government has decided on the key points for the “Federal Accessibility Initiative”, which includes legislative measures, barrier-free mobility and a barrier-free healthcare system. Public relations and awareness-raising are at the forefront - it is time for accessibility to be anchored in society as an important issue.
Accessibility in public transport
A particularly pressing issue is accessibility in local public transport. The law intended that public transport be barrier-free by January 1, 2022, but this goal has not yet been achieved. The life support reports that this is a major hurdle, especially for people with intellectual disabilities. On-demand mobility offers have also been subject to accessibility rules since August 1, 2021, but many problems have not yet been resolved.
Another step in the right direction is the legal regulation on accessibility for taxis. For a fleet of 20 vehicles or more, at least 5% must be barrier-free. This point also applies to new on-demand mobility offers. The efforts to improve accessibility are diverse, but there is still a long way to go.
