Heinz Hoenig: Comeback on stage after a serious illness!
Heinz Hoenig, the well-known actor and audience favorite, appeared in public for the first time after a serious illness. The 73-year-old appeared at an event in Berlin in an elegant black suit, accompanied by his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig. This return filled not only him, but also many fans with joy, because last year Hoenig struggled with acute heart problems and even had to spend several days in an artificial coma. His family gave him a lot of strength during this difficult time, as he emphasized. Goslarsche reports about his recovery and the associated operation on the esophagus.
The reason for his appearance was the jury meeting for the International Emmys, an event at which Hoenig was able to recall his famous role from the 80s classic “Das Boot”. His career, especially his collaboration with director Dieter Wedel, made him a star in the 90s. In 2024 he was also seen as a candidate in the RTL jungle camp.
Fundraising campaign for Hoenig
Because Hoenig was without health insurance during his illness, his management launched a fundraising campaign to cover hospital and treatment costs. This initiative quickly turned out to be a complete success: by Tuesday morning, more than 4,000 supporters had collected over 100,000 euros for Hoenig. The donors also included prominent personalities such as actor Til Schweiger. Ralph Siegel, Hoenig's friend, also vehemently supported the fundraising campaign. He himself has overcome a serious illness of his own and emphasizes that he is now doing better than Hoenig. Allgäuer Zeitung reports about the support that Hoenig received.
The original fundraising goal of 100,000 euros was increased to 150,000 euros due to the deterioration of Hoenig's health. Ralph Siegel and his team from the PR agency “Siegelring” organized the campaign, which was very well received by his business partners. In addition, a new edition of Siegel’s musical “A Little Peace” will be performed at the Deutsches Theater in Munich – but without Hoenig.
The power of art
In a broader context, it is exciting to mention that art and creativity are increasingly being recognized in health promotion. A recent WHO study highlights how valuable artistic activities can be in combating non-communicable diseases. Especially when recovering from illness, creative forms of expression are a valuable addition to medical treatment and can contribute holistically to improving well-being. The WHO explains that creative projects are inspiring approaches to health promotion and can therefore make a valuable contribution.
Hoenig's return to the public is not only a personal victory, but also reflects a broader discussion about the importance of health, art and community in difficult times. May his further recovery be as successful as his comeback to the world of theater!
