Virtual time travel in winter: Experience Goslar's history up close!

On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, a gate into the past will open in the Imperial Palace of Goslar - for young explorers and history lovers. A virtual journey through time to the once magnificent Goslar Cathedral will take place in the Medieval Winter Hall from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event is aimed at children and young people between the ages of 8 and 14 who would like to experience the story in a playful way accompanied by an adult. One more reason to register quickly, because places are limited.

The event uses the VR application DOM:digital and offers participants the opportunity to explore historical rooms and animated scenes using special VR glasses. Here you can slip into the role of time travelers and experience medieval Goslar up close - almost as if you were part of these bygone eras yourself. In order to optimize the image quality, short loading and changing breaks are taken so that all participants receive an undisturbed and impressive insight into the story.

A look at the booking

Registration for the event is necessary and can be done simply by sending an email to kultur@goslar.de. Ten VR glasses are available for each of the five time slots - 4:00 p.m. to 4:25 p.m., 4:35 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., 5:10 p.m. to 5:35 p.m., 5:45 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. This ensures that every child and their adult can experience the digital journey through time up close.

The event not only aims to impart knowledge, but also aims to combine the historical atmosphere with modern technology. The use of virtual reality brings together the old and the modern and offers a new dimension of learning and experience. Virtual reality, often abbreviated as VR, describes an immersive environment created by 3D displays and motion detection. This allows users to act interactively and enter foreign worlds, which is increasingly popular not only in education, but also in areas such as the entertainment industry and medical training. The development of VR technologies that make this experience even more vivid is bearing more and more fruit.

VR technology & its applications

VR is not just limited to gaming. The possible uses range from medical training and research to business applications such as virtual meetings. Technology has evolved significantly in recent years, and major companies such as Meta, HTC and Sony have released their own headsets that allow users to enjoy immersive virtual experiences.

However, there are also concerns about VR. Topics such as health, safety and data protection are on the agenda when talking about new technologies. Nevertheless, the appeal of these interactive worlds remains unbroken. Experience reports show that VR not only provides entertainment, but also improves learning and collaboration.

Due to the variety of requirements and the high demand for VR experiences, the event in the Kaiserpfalz is more than just a one-off event - it is a step into a new way of experiencing stories that allows children and young people to immerse themselves in the fascinating stories of the past. So be there when a window into history opens!
