A happy occasion for sports clubs all over Germany: GEMA and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) have extended their existing flat-rate contract for music reproduction in sports clubs, thereby ensuring the legally secure use of music until 2029. This was announced today and represents a big step for around 86,000 sports clubs, which can now continue to work in the future without having to worry about licensing music. This important agreement enables, among other things, the use of music in everyday training and events, at sports festivals, club celebrations as well as in fitness and dance courses. Niedersachsen LSB reports that the negotiations for this were conducted by a delegation of the state sports associations and the DOSB over several months.
A particularly pleasing detail is that the LandesSportBund Niedersachsen (LSB) continues to cover the costs of the flat-rate contract. Although these costs will increase from 339,569.34 euros to 575,097.13 euros in the next four years, which corresponds to an increase of almost 70%, sports clubs have the advantage that they do not have to bear any direct costs for the use of music in sports activities. This financial relief makes it easier for clubs to plan and carry out events and course programs.
