When the first lights shine in Hameln and the smell of roasted almonds and mulled wine wafts through the old town, then it's that time again: the Christmas market opens its doors! From November 24th to December 30th, visitors can enjoy the festive atmosphere and the hustle and bustle in the historical setting. And the best part? The market is just right for strolling and relaxing, even if it gets busy.
With its diverse offering, Hameln's Christmas market attracts families from the surrounding area. Over 20,000 requests were made last year, showing how popular this market is. Around 60 to 65 individually designed stands line the streets, which extend from the market square via Osterstrasse to the wedding center. Here you can find everything from handicrafts to delicious seasonal delicacies that will make every connoisseur's heart beat faster. In addition to the traditional wooden huts, subtle lighting ensures that the old town character remains alive.
Attractions for young and old
There are numerous highlights for families that make the visit even more unforgettable. A historic carousel that makes every child's eye light up and the popular children's bakery invite you to join in. A very special offer that is only available in Hameln is the so-called wish amplifier on Osterstrasse. Visitors young and old can speak their messages here - a great way to increase anticipation for the festival.
The Christmas spirit is perfectly underlined by a huge pyramid that is festively decorated and the fairytale Ferris wheel that spins around the city. The magical reindeer train also delights the little ones. Santa Claus is regularly on site during market hours, several times on Wednesdays and Saturdays, to enrich the atmosphere.
Event time and arrival
The Christmas market is open until 8 p.m. on weekdays, while on weekends you can stay longer until 10 p.m. A small drawback: the market will be closed on December 24th to 26th. If you want to travel from Hanover, you can plan a train journey of around 45 minutes. The walk from the train station to the old town takes around 10 minutes. By car the travel time depends on traffic, so you should allow 45 to 60 minutes. Parking spaces are available on the edge of the center, so you can easily reach the old town.
