Rohrsen in transition: Street Kuckuck is becoming a traffic-calmed area!

A lot is going to happen soon in Rohrsen: major renovations will be taking place on the Kuckuck street from mid-August. This measure is part of the urban development funding program “Social Cohesion” and aims to increase the quality of life in the neighborhood. A total of 440 meters of the road will be rebuilt, which will significantly improve both the safety and appearance of the area. The redesign includes the laying of concrete paving and the rearrangement of the traffic area, as dewezet reports.

A central element of the renovation is the reallocation of the street to a traffic-calmed area at walking speed. This not only means more safety for pedestrians and cyclists, but also that drivers have to be very careful when driving. In Germany, walking speeds of between 4.5 and 7.2 km/h are legally stipulated. For speeding in traffic-calmed areas, various fines can be expected, which can amount to up to 680 euros depending on the severity of the violation, as [bussgeldsiegen](https://www.bussgeldsiegen.de/verkehrsbe calmter-bereichspielstrasse-was-bedeutet-stepschnell/) highlights.

Design with green areas and raised beds

The special touch of the redesign is set by the inclusion of park areas that are framed with plants, as well as raised herb beds in front of the “KuckuckTreff”. Here, the neighborhood is not only made more beautiful but also more edible by planting espaliered fruit, marking the cuckoo as the “Edible Quarter”.

The construction work starts at the northeast end of the street, specifically in the Kuckuck/Rohrser Warte intersection area. Work is expected to be carried out in four to five construction phases, with each section covering up to 100 meters. In order to coordinate the work efficiently, Enertec and the Hameln Weserbergland municipal utilities will carry out line work at the same time. This offers residents the prospect of a comprehensively designed environment that is expected to continue to develop by the end of 2026.

Federal and state funding supports the project

Interestingly, the redesign is also supported by federal and state funds, which underlines the importance of the measure in the context of sustainable transport development. The plans show that traffic calming is not just limited to words, but is turned into reality through targeted investments and sustainable measures, as the Mobility Forum emphasizes.

In summary, it means: preparation for more community, security and a more attractive environment in Rohrsen! Residents can look forward to seeing what the cuckoo has to offer in the future.
