Last Friday morning, an incident occurred in a quiet district of Hanover that shocked many in the area. A 19-year-old is suspected of deliberately setting his parents' apartment on fire. The fire broke out at around 10:00 a.m. in an apartment building on Stephanusstrasse, and the fire brigade was only able to put out the fire at around 1:05 p.m. Fortunately, the four-room apartment on the top floor was empty at the time of the crime, so no one was injured. However, several residents of the house had to be evacuated as they streamed out of their apartments in panic.
The police took the young man into custody on Saturday after he surrendered to officers during the operation and confessed to setting the fire. It is believed he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crime, but blood test results are still pending.
