Facade renovation: HCC will shine in new splendor by 2026!
Something exciting is happening in the heart of Hanover! The Hannover Congress Center (HCC) is starting a comprehensive renovation of the facade of the historic town hall and the dome hall. This two-year project covers the south and east facades of the striking building and is scheduled to be completed by 2026. Hannover.de reports that the renovation will be carried out in two stages. In 2025, the focus will be on the upper facade area in the south, which extends towards the city park side, and the east side, which looks towards the Congress Hotel.
The first steps in the renovation work include replacing windows and doors on the southern ground floor and in the arcade area on the east side. Work on the southern flat roof is scheduled for 2026 and other windows will also be replaced. As a special highlight, the paving in the area of the eastern arcades will also be redesigned. The measure receives generous support of around 1.7 million euros from the federal funding program “KulturInvest 2023”, which was initiated by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media.
Support from the federal government
Anja Ritschel, head of the economic and environmental department, is extremely pleased with the successful application and the associated recognition of the dome hall. “With these funds we can preserve the historical town hall cultural monument in its full splendor,” said Ritschel. HCC director Joachim König also thanks the state capital of Hanover for the additional support, because without these funds the implementation of the measures would not have been possible.
But it's not just the current renovation that's important. In 2023, the Niedersachsenhalle received a fundamental renovation of the historic facade during the annual summer event break. This was designed to match the basic renovation of the historic domed hall. The integrated terrace above the main entrance has been lovingly restored and equipped for future use. In addition, the large flagpoles on the forecourt have been given a facelift, which contributes to making the historic building more attractive. This renovation was also supported with federal funding, which shows how important it is to preserve such important monuments EVVC.
Funding for monument protection
The funding available here benefits a broad spectrum and extends across the entire country. The aim is to preserve the cultural landscape, with smaller construction and craft businesses also benefiting Kulturstaatsminister.de. It is undisputed that such measures benefit building culture and contribute to the promotion of cultural heritage.
Overall, the start of the facade renovation is an important step in making the historic town hall and the domed hall shine in new splendor - a benefit for the city and its citizens. It remains exciting to see how the work develops, and the first progress can be admired soon.
