A tragic traffic accident cost the lives of two women on October 28, 2025 on the B6 near Linsburg in the Nienburg/Weser district. The consequences were devastating: a 68-year-old passenger died immediately, while the 61-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident after attempts at resuscitation.
The alleged perpetrator, however, was lucky and only sustained minor injuries. He was taken to a nearby clinic. Due to the incident, federal highway 6 had to be temporarily closed between Meinkingsburg and Schneerener Krug. An expert was called in to clarify the exact cause of the accident. So far, the agreement from the road remains unclear and the police investigation is still ongoing.
Traffic accidents in Lower Saxony
The situation remains particularly worrying for young adults: the number of deaths among 18 to 24 year olds rose to 58, while seniors aged 65 and over made up a worrying proportion of traffic fatalities with 126 deaths. The main causes of fatal traffic accidents remain excessive speed as well as failure to give way and errors when turning or overtaking.
A look at road safety
In 2024, around two thirds of fatal traffic accidents occurred on country roads. Even though the number of minor and serious injuries has fallen, daily statistics show that a cyclist is affected every 50 minutes. The Minister of the Interior and Sport, Daniela Behrens, therefore emphasized the importance of intensive controls and prevention work in traffic safety.
