Himmelsthür squanders an opportunity: Alfeld's comeback remains unrewarded!
On the third matchday of the handball regional league, TuS GW Himmelsthür suffered another defeat. In the first home game of the season, the Himmeltürer lost to MTV Vorsfelde 36:40 after being just 18:19 behind at halftime. Despite an interim equalizer from several players, including Hollstein, Krumwiede and Stechel, the hosts were unable to achieve victory. Particularly noteworthy were the goal scorers who kept the game exciting: Hollstein scored 8 goals, followed by Krumwiede with 6 and Oertel with 5 goals. But the strongest opponent, Lasse Giese, decided the game with three consecutive goals for Vorsfelde, which made it difficult for the Sky Gaters to catch up. The team from Himmelsthür remains winless this season, as Sportnews Hildesheim reports.
At the same time, SV Alfeld also had to play against SV Beckdorf and had to admit defeat 33:34 after an exciting game. Alfeld arrived without their top player Malte Hansemann and quickly found themselves behind. Nevertheless, they fought back in the second period and achieved a tie of 32:32. In the end, however, the necessary bit of luck was missing to score the decisive goals. Schuldes was the top scorer on Alfeld's side with 10 goals.
The challenge in the regional league
The handball regional league, which was launched again in 2024 after a long break in 2010, offers teams in northern Germany an exciting platform. This league is not only a challenge for the teams, but also an opportunity for promotion to higher classes, such as the Oberliga. TuS GW Himmelsthür already achieved promotion to the Oberliga last season 2023/24 and is now fighting to master the new regional league, as Himmelsthür reports.
An important date for all fans and players is on May 25th, when a tournament will be held in the BBS Halle in Alfeld. This event will be crucial as five teams will compete for two spots for the Regionalliga. In the “everyone against everyone” mode, exciting games are expected that the teams prepare intensively.
state of affairs
The Regionalliga, organized by the German Handball Federation, has had its place in German handball since 1969. The focus of the league is not only on the championships, but also on the development of players and teams in order to offer them the opportunity for promotion. There are currently numerous teams playing in the regional league, with HC Aschersleben and Füchse Berlin II being among the title holders in recent years, as can be found on Wikipedia.
It remains to be seen whether TuS GW Himmelsthür will be able to turn things around. The next games will show whether the team can emerge from the crisis and prove itself in the new league. One thing is certain: the regional league remains an exciting place for everyone involved!
