Reading pleasure” in Advent: Young talents inspire with winter stories!

During Advent, when the days become shorter and the evenings more comfortable, the Studienkreis tutoring institute launches a special initiative that is intended to win over the hearts of more than just children and young people: the “Lust for Reading” campaign. As the Hildesheim press reports, the project aims to promote reading aloud during this contemplative time. Winter children's stories are presented, including the stories of two talented students, Anna Wilhelm (13) and Luisa von Zglinicki (14).

Anna and Luisa are not only passionate readers, but also finalists in the nationwide reading competition 2024, which is organized by the Book Culture and Reading Promotion Foundation of the German Book Trade Association. Anna inspires with the story “Inspector Walter and the yeast wreath”, in which the dachshund Walter reveals the secret of his neighbor's missing yeast wreath in a snowy winter landscape. With “Leo the Tomcat and his Advent Calendar,” Luisa takes readers into a world full of mysterious packages and chaotic surprises that Leo the Tomcat brings to the table.

Enjoy reading and personal tips

In several clips on the Studienkreis website, the two students share their experiences as finalists and reveal personal book tips. The platform also contains ten selected recommendations for children and young people, which are intended to further increase the joy of reading. Thomas Momotow from Studienkreis comments: “Reading aloud promotes closeness, curiosity and the joy of reading.”

But that's not all! In addition to promoting reading culture, the institute is giving away five book vouchers worth 50 euros each. Anyone who resides in Germany is eligible to participate and the deadline is December 31, 2025. The winners will be notified by email.

Together to promote reading

The “Leselust” initiative fits wonderfully into the wide range of reading promotion projects that are being carried out in Germany to awaken enthusiasm for reading among children and young people. According to the Reading Foundation Promoting reading not only offers joy, but also the opportunity to independently shape the future. There are numerous partners behind these projects who provide both moral and financial support to help children and young people enter the world of books.

Advent is not only a time for gifts and cosiness, but also an ideal opportunity to strengthen the culture of reading aloud and to introduce young people to the joy of reading. Join in and get inspired!
