Masked man attacks gas station in Hildesheim – police are looking for witnesses!
A masked man attacked a gas station on Berliner Strasse in Hildesheim on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. when the unknown perpetrator demanded that the contents of the cash register be handed over. An employee complied with the request and handed him cash. After the attack, the perpetrator fled unrecognized in the dark. Oldenburg online newspaper reports on the fear and uncertainty that such an incident triggers in the neighborhood.
The Hildesheim police station immediately started an investigation and is looking for an older man who was in the sales room at the time of the crime. This could provide important information about the perpetrator. The suspect's description states that he is approximately 1.80 meters tall and slim. He was dressed in a black sweater that had striking white lettering on the sleeves and red applications on the chest, as well as dark pants and dark shoes. The police are urgently appealing for any relevant information. NDR also reported on the incident and assisted the police in their search.
Successful arrest of a suspect
There had already been another robbery at a gas station in Hildesheim, in which the police were able to arrest a 32-year-old suspect on May 7th. Interestingly, this man entered the gas station several times shortly before the robbery and bought something there. On his third visit, he then asked the employees to give him money without using a weapon. The quick action of an employee who pressed the alarm button caused the man to flee. But the police were quickly on the scene and caught the suspect after around 15 minutes. However, after consultation with the public prosecutor's office, he was released because there was no sufficient suspicion.
This comes in the context of a worrying development in Lower Saxony, where at least 13 attacks were recorded in the first weeks of the year. The police observe that robbers and thieves are often active, especially on weekends. Two other suspects, a 16-year-old and a 26-year-old, were also recently arrested after attacking a man. NDR brings together the numbers and information on these raids to provide a clear picture of the current security situation.
People in Hildesheim and the surrounding area are alarmed about what such incidents could mean for their safety during everyday errands. It remains to be hoped that further investigative approaches will help the police bring these criminals to justice. Security and trust in public order are at stake because residents want to feel safe in their own neighborhoods.
